Ranse Partin

Ranse Partin specializes in complex civil litigation, including business litigation, whistleblower cases, class actions, and serious personal injury and product liability cases. A private pilot himself, Mr. Partin has significant experience with cases arising from aviation crashes. Prior to founding his own firm, Mr. Partin practiced for a decade at one of the largest law firms in the world, representing some of the largest corporations in America.  He now enjoys devoting his practice to representing “the underdog” – “real people” and businesses injured — economically or physically — by the wrongful acts of others.

Other lawyers have recognized Mr. Partin as one of the top lawyers in Georgia.  Mr. Partin maintains the highest Martindale-Hubbell peer rating (“AV Preeminent,” 5 on a scale of 1 – 5), based on confidential reviews by other lawyers.  Martindale describes this rating as “a testament to the fact that a lawyer’s peers rank him…at the highest level of professional excellence.”  The Daily Report, Georgia’s legal newspaper, ranked Mr. Partin as one of the top 40 lawyers in Georgia under the age of 40.  He has been named a “Super Lawyer,” and was previously recognized as a “Rising Star,” in the Super Lawyers and Atlanta magazines, based on the votes of other lawyers. In 2015 and 2016, Mr. Partin was recognized as one of “Georgia’s Legal Elite” in personal injury litigation by, Georgia Trend magazine.

Mr. Partin enjoys trying cases throughout Georgia, especially in rural venues similar to his roots. In 2014, Mr. Partin was co-counsel in the largest personal injury verdict ever obtained in Valdosta, Georgia at that time. In Childress v. Kendrick, Superior Court of Lowndes County, Georgia, he won $1.8 million for a client who needlessly lost his leg due to medical malpractice.  In 2013, Mr. Partin was co-counsel in two jury verdicts totaling over $11 million:  Hernandez v. Hi-Tech Engineering, a $10 million verdict in Jefferson County, Georgia, one of the largest verdicts ever obtained in rural Georgia, for the wrongful death of an undocumented worker in a saw mill; and Thomas v. Williams, a $1.2 million verdict in Cobb County, Georgia, in an automotive, wrongful death case.

Before founding his own firm, Mr. Partin practiced law for ten years at King & Spalding — an international law firm recognized as one of the top 50 law firms in the world, with more than 850 lawyers — as a member of K&S’s Business Litigation, Healthcare, and False Claims Act (qui tam / whistleblower) practices. At K&S, he represented numerous corporate clients, including many in the healthcare industry, such as hospitals and health systems, pharmacy providers and managed care organizations. These matters typically involved specialized healthcare regulatory issues, or intricate managed care issues.  He often speaks and writes on healthcare litigation and related issues. Mr. Partin also has extensive experience in business litigation, having represented leading Fortune 100 companies, including The Coca-Cola Company, Comcast, and SunTrust Bank.  He has litigation and trial experience in state and federal courts, including first-chair trial experience, both at the trial and appellate levels, as well as in arbitration and mediation proceedings in commercial disputes across the country.  Mr. Partin has litigated many types of business claims, including breach of contract, fraud, tortious interference, RICO, class actions, and insurance coverage disputes.

Mr. Partin graduated cum laude from The University of Georgia School of Law, and has a B.A. from Emory University. Following law school, he clerked for two years for the Honorable Thomas W. Thrash, Jr., United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia.  He is a native of Nashville, Georgia.

Representative Matters

Mr. Partin has a diverse litigation practice, primarily devoted to representing plaintiffs – businesses and individuals – in civil litigation.

Examples of Mr. Partin’s representations of businesses, since starting his own firm, include:

• Represented private equity fund as plaintiff in $21 million dispute related to the enforcement of a developer’s personal guaranty for a mezzanine loan related to an industrial warehouse development;
• Appointed to Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in Equifax Data Breach Multi-District Litigation (MDL), serving as Co-Liaison Counsel for the Financial Institution Class Plaintiffs;
• Obtained $1.2 million settlement for hospital client in breach of contract case where a managed healthcare insurance company was wrongfully paying the hospital for “outpatient-observation claims” as lower cost “inpatient claims”;
• Appointed to Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in Home Depot Data Breach MDL, serving as Co-Liaison for the Financial Institution Class Plaintiffs;
• Representing a Fortune 500 company as a plaintiff in a multi-million dollar tax dispute against a state;
• Successfully representing as plaintiff one of the nation’s largest suppliers of asphalt in several contract disputes with a road contractor and surety bonding companies, recovering nearly 100% of the underpayment shortly after filing suit;
• Defending one of the largest health-systems in the Southeast against business tort claims by a group of physicians previously affiliated with the health-system, in both the state trial and appellate courts;
• Representing as the plaintiff a regional health-system in a payment dispute in excess of $1 million against a Fortune 500 health insurer;
• Serving as local counsel for a plaintiff – telecommunications company in federal court in patent litigation against Google for infringing on a patent related to Google-Voice

Examples of Mr. Partin's representations of individuals include:

• $4.5 million pre-suit settlement of trucking collision involving the death of a husband and serious injuries to his wife, requiring extensive research and negotiations regarding personal jurisdiction and choice of state law issues
• Obtained $11.7 million verdict from a federal judge in a bench trial in an aviation accident case against the United States of America.  Represented the widow and children of a man who was killed in an aviation accident resulting from the negligence of pilots of the United States Civil Air Patrol.
• Obtained $3.5 million in a settlement for the surviving parents who lost their child in the crash of a private jet;
• Representing at trial the surviving family of a foreign-born worker in a wrongful death, product liability suit against the Canada-based manufacturer of a computer-operated lumber sawing system, involving depositions in Mexico, Oregon, Arkansas, and Georgia, resulting in a $10 million verdict in Jefferson County, Georgia, in March 2013;
• Representing at trial the surviving father of a college student, killed while driving from home Easter night when he collided into a boat and trailer parked partially in the right-of-way, resulting in a $1.2 million verdict in Cobb County, Georgia, in April 2013;
• Obtained a $765,000 settlement in a multi-defendant case for the surviving parents of a 6-year old girl, who drowned in a swimming pool built by a pool company in violation of building codes, which pool was wrongfully certified by the municipality as conforming to code, in September 2013; and
• Obtained a $300,000 settlement on the eve of trial from a county’s insurer, for federal civil rights claims against a Sheriff and investigator on behalf of a husband and wife whose home was illegally searched with an intentionally fabricated search warrant, working as co-counsel with famed trial lawyer, Bobby Lee Cook, in January 2013.
